BaseLUTs for Canon C80 and R5 Mark II by Gamut are designed to solve one of the most common challenges in video production: working with flat, low-contrast Canon Log footage. When shooting in Canon Log 2 or Canon Log 3, footage appears desaturated and washed out, making it difficult to judge exposure, color balance, and overall image quality during filming and post-production. These BaseLUTs provide a reliable and efficient solution for transforming flat footage into clean, natural-looking images.
Specifically built for Canon C80 and Canon R5 Mark II cameras, these LUTs are optimized for Canon Log 2 and Log 3 recording profiles. Both profiles preserve a wide dynamic range, capturing more detail in highlights and shadows, but they require proper color transformation to become viewable and editable. BaseLUTs handle this transformation accurately, maintaining image integrity while revealing true color and contrast.
A LUT, or Look-Up Table, is a color transformation file that maps flat camera footage into a viewable color space. The LUTs in this collection use the industry-standard .cube format and are compatible with popular video editing and color grading software, including DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, and Final Cut Pro.
The package includes two primary LUT categories to support different stages of production. Base LUTs are used for editing and final output, converting Canon Log 2 or Log 3 footage into either Rec709 or DWG color spaces. Rec709 LUTs are ideal for standard monitor and broadcast display, delivering balanced contrast and accurate color. DWG LUTs are designed for professional color grading workflows, preserving more color information and tonal detail for advanced adjustments.
Monitor LUTs are included to assist during filming. These LUTs allow flat Log footage to appear natural on camera monitors without altering the recorded file. This makes it easier to evaluate lighting, color balance, and scene composition in real time. Monitor LUTs are clearly labeled, making them easy to identify and apply on set.
Before LUT-based workflows became standard, editors had to manually adjust curves, levels, and color balance for every clip. This process was time-consuming and often inconsistent, especially when matching multiple scenes. BaseLUTs eliminate this complexity by providing a consistent, professional starting point for every clip, reducing guesswork and protecting highlight and shadow detail.
